This office building is one of the healthiest places to work.

Feeling healthy? At work?

You wouldn’t normally put health and work together. But in the case of The Spine building, they go hand in hand.

We were lucky enough to have a key role in designing an essential aspect of this healthy environment:

The restorative landscape.

What’s a restorative landscape?

Nature has a profound impact on your health and well-being. It’s why landscape design can be so powerful.

A restorative landscape is a space that’s designed to connect people with nature – reducing stress and improving overall health.

It usually has natural materials and elements such as:

  • Wood

  • Stone

  • Different varieties of greenery

  • Water features

  • Open spaces

  • Shady areas

All of these combine to create unique spaces that encourage contemplation and relaxation – soothing both body and mind.

An office like no other

Located in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter, The Spine is a 14-storey, 160,000 square foot office building. And it’s one of the UK’s healthiest workspaces – it’s been certified as a WELL Platinum building.

Completed in 2021, The Spine was designed by AHR Architects and by us at OOBE Landscape Architects.

The building is a great example of landscape design that improves health.

You might be thinking, how exactly does The Spine’s design achieve that?

The building includes a number of elements that promote well-being, including:

  • A double-height sky garden with lush planting

  • A water feature that provides a calming soundscape

  • A series of outdoor seating areas

  • A rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the city

Our landscape architects designed these features to connect people with nature, giving them a space to relax and recharge.

You deserve a healthy environment

Everyone has the right to good health. And, even though it’s often overlooked, our environment plays a key role in that.

It’s one of the reasons why we believe that everyone deserves to have access to restorative landscapes.

And it’s why we do what we do. We want to create spaces that connect you with nature and improve your overall well-being.

Because when you live or work in an environment that’s focused on your well-being, you’re able to perform at your best.

After all, the benefits of landscape design in the workplace extend beyond health. Having just a little more greenery around the office can even increase the productivity of employees
