BACKGROUND
Sitting proudly at the corner of Paddington Village, Liverpool’s new flagship building, The Spine, demonstrates the ambition to make the Knowledge Quarter of Liverpool a world-leading innovation district.
THE CONCEPT
The 14-storey, 160,000 sq ft building will not only be BREEAM Excellent rated but will also be one of the first in the UK designed to achieve a WELL Standard Certification – making it one of the best working environments for mental health and physical wellbeing.
Using a biophilic design – an innovative way of designing the places in which we live, work and learn – The Spine‘s curtain wall system and unique ceramic frit facade, reconnect people with nature, creating a healthier environment that is proven to help productivity.
DEVELOPMENT
The Spine building of RCP Paddington Village plot 3 has a biophilic design concept which promotes the health and wellbeing of users in all facets of the building and its uses. Our involvement was to design a series of interior planters and living walls which contribute to the biophilic design concept.
RESULTS
The building has a series of internal planting beds and living walls which are designed to have a salutogenic influence on the building’s users, connecting them with nature and promoting their mental wellbeing. OOBE was involved in the early stages of the impressive facade treatment of the building.
