Faifley Campus

A modern campus with environmental education

BACKGROUND

OOBE is developing the landscape design and public realm associated with the new education and community campus in Faifley for West Dunbartonshire Council via HUB West.

Designed to meet industry-leading Passivhaus requirements and the Scottish Government’s Net Zero Public Sector Buildings Standards, the new campus will require little energy for space heating or cooling, driving down running costs and carbon emissions.

The design team includes Morrison Construction as the main contractor, alongside Atelier Ten, Cowal Design Consultants, Faithful + Gould, OOBE, and Sussed Sustainability.

THE CONCEPT

The project incorporates the combining of two current primary schools, St Joseph's and Edinbarnet, and the facilities within the existing Skypoint Centre onto one site and facility.

The design aims to provide a modern campus with environmental education, access to nature, and increased local biodiversity. The intention is to provide a robust, durable, and high-quality landscape that creates a tactile and engaging environment.

The sports hall and all-weather outdoor pitch will be available out of- hours to community sports groups, and the flexible design will allow the school’s dining space to double as a drama or dance facility for local groups.

RESULTS

An emphasis is placed on creating an attractive and welcoming environment that makes the most of the tandem build and provides the local community, students, and visitors with key connections and access to nature. Spending time outdoors is proven to benefit both mental and physical wellbeing.
