Originally built in the 80’s, Slough Ice Arena has just undergone a major revamp and as part of this, OOBE designed the surrounding area’s landscape.

Owned by Slough Borough Council and managed by Everyone Active, the ice rink has undergone a multi-million pound transformation and opened its doors to the public on 17 April 2018.

The once dated building is now an impressive and contemporary structure that has a fantastic outdoor space leading to up to its doors.

Mike Goodall, one of OOBE’s founders explains;

“There is a big drive by Slough Borough Council to get more people active, and what better and more fun way than ice skating?

However, Slough’s ice rink wasn’t attractive as it had become dated. The investment made is a fantastic move to create another hub for the community to utilise and to inspire more people to become active.

OOBE were commissioned by GT3 due to our reputation for technical and rigorous design that still maintains strong design flair.”

Mike continues;

“The new ice rink was to become a place that was inviting, to encourage participation, and the landscape around it had to support that.

Our design was inspired by Slough Jets, the ice hockey team and the lines of a stick, providing a stronger connection from the town towards the building that would pull people towards it.

The landscape is now elegant with a modern flair. The outdoor furniture, again with an ice-hockey inspired theme, creates a meeting area for visitors of the centre. Surrounded by trees and green plantation the footpath leading to the building is built using contrasting materials which provide a striking visual impact.”

The venue has already attracted celebrities, with Dancing on Ice stars  Perri Shakes-Drayton and professional skater Mark Hanretty making already making an appearance!
