OOBE is working with moda living and CDA Architects on a prestigious private rented sector scheme in Edinburgh’s city centre.
The site is in a prominent location only a short walk from Edinburgh Castle, Haymarket Station and Bruntsfield Links. This makes it extremely accessible and well connected for both residents and visitors.
Public realm, street trees, improved paving, and increased pedestrian priority are key aspects of the streetscape design. This will provide a safe, vibrant and iconic space within Edinburgh’s existing building fabric.
Dynamic forms and bespoke raised seating edges respond to the functional requirements of the building and users. This allows for primary circulation, whilst defining a central events space and creating a flexible core for a range of events including market stalls and pop-up events.
The courtyard space is open to the public during the daytime, with access for residents only during the evening. The landscape has been designed to provide a series of relaxing and informal social spaces for both residents and visitors.
A landscape design that complements this urban village
This phase involves a six-storey 221-home development and the whole site will feature 573 rental apartments, shops, bars, restaurants, extensive parks and a public square.
Through an understanding of the existing urban fabric and how the site is to develop, a contemporary and high-quality landscape design for 21st century living was created. The pedestrian friendly environment enhances existing and establishing new routes into the city and public/semi-private courtyards provide sanctuaries from the bustling city centre.
“At moda we provide a whole new way to rent. This is centred on providing well-designed places to live, work and play for happier and healthier living. The Springside development will be home to over 476 rental home, 15,000sqft of ground floor retail space and a public square. Right from the outset OOBE understood our fresh approach.
“Through its contemporary landscape designs, OOBE is helping moda to create a new neighbourhood in the heart of Edinburgh’s iconic city-centre. A place where people can make the most of being outdoors in a beautiful setting.”
