Client: Tameside Council
Construction Value: £37m
A new Joint Services Centre for Tameside Council and new Advanced Skills Centre for Tameside College replaces existing council buildings in the centre of Ashton-under-Lyne.
The scheme successfully integrated into the wider on-going masterplan, which includes Ashton Market Place to the south. This was achieved through close collaboration between architects, engineers, and Tameside Council and ensured harmony with ongoing adjacent developments.
A public realm project bringing the benefits of open space to Ashton-under-Lyne's community
The project includes a raised courtyard to provide external space for the Council, the College and public recreation. And at ground level, the scheme ties in with adjacent new developments and provides a break-out space for a new library, commercial and retail frontage. By incorporating external steps, there are now informal seating opportunities and a chance to enjoy alfresco dining.
Through a strong partnership approach with Tameside Council the community can take the time to relax in the additional open public space and benefit from improved links to Ashton-under-Lyne town centre.
