Dinnington Market
A vibrant new public realm.
AHR Architects and OOBE’s proposal for Dinnington Market involves a significant redevelopment. This will see the demolition of several structures, including the burnt-out building, indoor and outdoor markets, the colliery band building, and half of the shopping parade.
In their place, a vibrant new public realm will be created. This will include six new commercial units, a pop-up market, and a flexible commercial/community building. The heart of this redevelopment will be a fully landscaped market square, designed to draw people in and create a welcoming space.
The landscape design will focus on improving pedestrian routes, creating safer and more accessible connections between the bus station, car parks, and the high street. Soft landscaping elements, such as planting and public seating, will enhance the overall experience and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable town centre.
Softworks maintenance will implement a comprehensive landscape management plan for Dinnington Market, enhancing its aesthetic appeal, ecological value, and visitor experience.
Regular fortnightly maintenance visits during the growing season, and as needed thereafter, will ensure optimal plant health and appearance. Hand weeding will be prioritised to protect beneficial insects and the environment, while regular cleaning will maintain a clean and inviting space. All plants will have an Adequate water supply, and trees and shrubs will be inspected for wind damage and staking requirements.
The amenity grassland will be kept neat and tidy through regular mowing, while ornamental grasses and perennials will be strategically cut and pruned to enhance winter interest and promote healthy growth. Hedges will be regularly pruned to maintain desired shapes and sizes, and trees will receive the necessary care, including watering, mulching, fertilising, and pruning. High-quality topsoil will be used to create optimal growing conditions for all plants, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable landscape at Dinnington Market.
Plans to transform the high street as part of the town centre regeneration have been approved in September 2024.
