Pacific Quay

OOBE was commissioned to design a landscape that provides a relaxed and social space for residents and visitors to the Pacific Quay Development. The development aims to create a unique character that reflects the heritage of its setting. The landscape and planting design supports this across the public spaces and streets, using low-maintenance, structured planting to evoke the area’s historical significance. Desire lines throughout the site help portray this historical relevance, guiding movement in a way that honours the past.

The central space is designed to reconnect the city of Glasgow with Festival Park and beyond. This space, where existing and proposed paths converge, creates a sense of arrival and serves as a meeting and gathering point for passers-by, visitors, and residents. By keeping this central area open, well-lit, and populated with seating opportunities, it creates a flexible core for a range of events, including street activities, informal play, local market stalls, and community performances. 

The project has successfully created a public realm catalyst for a new community, providing unique character to the development. By creating key public spaces with built-in flexibility for a variety of events, OOBE has enabled the new community and the surrounding neighborhood to come together in meaningful ways. These spaces not only serve as a social hub but also foster a sense of community and belonging.

The landscape design at Pacific Quay exemplifies how thoughtful planning and design can create spaces that are not only functional but also enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors.
