BACKGROUND
OOBE worked with MODA Living and Glen Howells Architects to develop a mixed-use residential tower on Broad Street in the heart of Birmingham.
THE CONCEPT
Creation of a multifunctional landscaped amenity roof terrace providing a mix of intimate and open spaces for residents promoting health and well-being through the use of extensive planting, flexible spaces and running and walking circuit.
DEVELOPMENT
Our design is based on a formal structured grid following the geometry of the building. The grid creates a seamless relationship between the internal and external spaces. The podium is split into a series of different spaces varying in character that provide different external rooms for activities enclosed by a 200m running track around the perimeter. The podium provides residents with various BBQ and outdoor dining areas, an indoor / outdoor room, a large expanse of lawn, pockets or secluded seating areas and flexible exercise spaces.
RESULTS
Birminghams’ tallest residential tower boasting forty-two-storeys and a generous amenity podium deck with surrounding running track with multifunctional spaces dispersed amongst luscious planting. These spaces can be used as a series of smaller private spaces or opened up as a large event space to provide ultimate flexibility for residents.
The project team successfully navigated its way through uncontrollable external factors, including Covid-19 and the impact of Brexit materials shortages, to deliver without any major delays or cost increases.
