Chris Shiels

Regional Director: Edinburgh

After graduating from the Edinburgh College of Art in 2005 Chris spent ten years working as a Landscape Architect in the north of England where he gained experience designing and delivering a broad range of projects with OOBE including urban regeneration, public realm, large scale infrastructure, heritage, and conservation schemes. He had success with several design competitions during this time.

Chris spent a year in Leeds working on the Hull City of Culture regeneration scheme- a £20m urban realm improvement project, transforming the city centre. Chris led the team detailing the old town portion of the project, culminating in the award-winning Trinity Square, a high-quality public realm for Hull Minster.

Chris joined a landscape practice in his hometown of Edinburgh in 2016 and in his role as Associate Director he led the delivery of several high-profile schemes throughout the UK, including Newcastle Cathedral and Fletton Quays in Peterborough.

Chris returned to OOBE in 2022 where he assumed the role of Regional Director for the new Scottish Office in Edinburgh. Chris’s new role focuses on the delivery of projects as Project Director / Leader. He manages the landscape team in Scotland but retains a solid relationship with clients and collaborators throughout the UK. Chris provides the client with a main point of contact, consistent service, and integration into the wider team.

Outside of work Chris enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors with his young children, bagging the occasional Munro, and watching the odd game of rugby when he gets a chance.
