Mike is one of the founding Directors of OOBE. His expertise is in large scale masterplanning and urban design projects, although he has a keen interest in planting and horticulture. He studied landscape architecture and ecology at the University of Sheffield where his passion for strategic design and masterplanning began. Following a move back to his native North East England he has experienced working in a small design led practice, as well as international multi disciplinary environmental consultancies in the UK and China, before establishing OOBE at the start of 2010. Mike’s wide and varied project experience includes a number of award winning projects and competitions including first prize in a RIBA Open Ideas Competition and the multi award winning City Campus, Northumbria University and Littlehaven Promenade and Seawall.
Mike’s approach is driven by his passion for creating bold, imaginative and quality solutions. A keen plantsman, he enjoys teaching others the pleasure and benefits that plants can bring to a space through clever use of rhythm and repetition, drawing inspiration from ecological principles where possible. He is currently working on projects across the UK and in China.
Mike enjoys home life in the Northumberland countryside with his collections of plants, animals and long suffering family.
