OOBE were commissioned by Cranfield University as their Landscape Architect consultant to provide a range of services over three years to support its campus enhancement and development programme. OOBE are lead consultants assisting the University in realising their vision of creating an overall Landscape Masterplan and Framework for their campus.

This strategic roadmap will be instrumental in creating a high-quality landscape environment. This environment, designed for longevity, will seamlessly cater to the evolving needs of the University, its staff, and its student body for years to come. To elevate the planting strategy to the highest standard and ensure it seamlessly complements the existing campus Nigel Dunnett as a sub-consultant. Nigel Dunnett’s renowned expertise in this field will be invaluable throughout the development program. His contributions will ensure the creation of a vibrant and diverse landscape that enhances the overall character of the University.

OOBE developed a campus-wide landscape strategy with a focus on progressive implementation. This overarching strategy will serve the purpose of reconnecting existing and future buildings and establishing an aesthetically captivating setting that unifies the entire campus. Emphasis will be placed on creating a network of well-connected and cohesive spaces, prioritising dedicated pedestrian and cyclist movement corridors alongside designated recreational areas. Furthermore, a structured approach will be implemented to manage vehicle movement and parking, ensuring a safe and efficient campus environment.

OOBE has developed an aesthetically pleasing planting strategy, fostering increased biodiversity within the campus ecosystem and working seamlessly within the constraints imposed by the close proximity of the University Airport. These constraints necessitate innovative design solutions that ensure the safety and functionality of the landscape while upholding its aesthetic appeal.

Professor Nigel Dunnett has been brought in as a sub-consultant to assist in the planting mixes throughout the programme on this development to ensure they are of the highest quality and enhance the existing tapestry of the site.
