This masterplan will be a carbon neutral operation project emphasising blue/green infrastructure.
OOBE was commissioned to develop the landscape masterplan and public realm associated with a new 300-unit residential development as part of the wider Granton Waterfront Masterplan.
The landscape proposals aimed to create a calm, natural haven for residents and visitors. By interweaving people, nature and the site's industrial heritage, the landscape proposals provide a pedestrian-led design that builds on sustainable landscape solutions, creating an optimum environment for residents to live.
This project is part of the wider Granton Western Villages masterplan and is the first scheme to be developed. This masterplan will be a carbon neutral operation project emphasising blue/green infrastructure and providing a new section to the Sustrans cycle network. The landscape design provides SuDS features within the masterplan and strengthens the tree belts and existing parkland on the periphery of the development, connecting the new green infrastructure with the existing landscape helping to enhance the existing ecology of the site and the surrounding area.
High-quality external spaces play a crucial role in neighbourhood-making and the integration of the development with the local and wider context. Mature woodland, open fields, and the bank of the Forth are features which strongly influence the landscape character of the surrounding area. Building on this prominent location and the industrial heritage, the site has the potential to become a unique neighbourhood: a haven for residents of all ages and a biodiverse environment.
